Money Saving Tips for the Budget Conscious Student
We can easily re-title this feature to read: how we scrape together a few extra dollars each month. As international grad students who have no choice other than to make do with the monthly stipend that has been bestowed upon us, making ends meet can be an exercise of both will power and creativity.
This post will feature ways to save money on ink cartridges. Just yesterday, we shared a couple of ways through which one can stretch the life of a printer cartridge. This time around, we will share another couple of ways by which we spend a little less on replacement cartridges.
In deference to printer manufacturers, we do believe in purchasing original printer ink; unfortunately, that is not something that we can afford to do each time we need to replace our ink cartridges. So what do we do? We compromise. We usually refill our cartridges twice before we discard them for new ones. This is after making sure, of course, that we have been very frugal with our printing habits to ensure that these replacements are as far between as possible.
Another way to ensure that you do not spend too much on replacement cartridges will necessitate a little backtracking, to the time when you are choosing to buy a new printer. Since at this time, a lot of students are probably hunting for bargain finds that is both affordable and yet can deliver everything that they will need, it will be a good idea to keep printers with individual color ink cartridges vs. tri-color cartridges. In our experience – we used to have a model that had tri-color ink – the ink in these cartridges do not get used up at the same time, so having to replace the entire cartridge at once means a wasted ink.
