A Supply Of Printer Cartridges Paves The Way For A Smoother Passport Application
Beginning June 1, 2009, you must have you passport to travel outside of the United States. This includes travel to Mexico and Canada.
If you live near the border of Mexico or Canada and travel to these countries frequently by car, then a passport card may be all that you need. However if you plan to travel by plane, you will need a passport book.
If you are making travel plans now, then you should also be applying for your passport. The United States Department of State has instructions and forms online for obtaining a passport.
To apply, the form can be filled out and printed out on your home computer printer. Be sure that you have plenty of printer cartridges on hand, especially if you are making more than one application. This is first hand, quality advice. We needed four printed documents and ran out of ink on number three. I keep an ample supply of printer cartridges now since I save so much buying online!
Once the form is printed, take it in person to a local passport-processing agent. You will need to take your driver’s license, a certified copy of your birth certificate, two checks for fees and two passport photographs to an official passport-processing center. Many times the processing center can be found in your local post office.
There are specific instructions on the State Department’s website about the passport photos, however they do say that you can take and print these photos yourself. You may need to buy a photo printer cartridge for your printer to get the quality needed for the passport.
Plan to give the passport at least eight weeks to arrive from the time of your application. This will ensure that your travel plans are not interrupted.
