How Do Thermal Printers Work?
Thermal printers are special printers used for specific purposes. Offices and homes have them in the form of fax machines and multi-purpose printers. In stores, they are now commonly found as part of checkout systems where they print receipts and invoices.
Heat is the main component in how thermal printers work. In earlier versions of the thermal printer, heat-sensitive sheets of paper are used. The printouts form on the paper as a reaction of the paper to the heat provided by the printer head. On the other hand, newer versions of the thermal printer make use of ribbon printer cartridges. When the thermal printer is used, the heat melts the ink on the ribbon and transfers it onto the paper.
Thermal printers are good because they are quiet and their cartridges are inexpensive. However, too much heat can make thermal printers messy to use. Also, colors are limited on thermal printers.
