All You Need to Know about Dot Matrix Printers
Dot matrix printers were the dominant printers of the 1980s and the early 1990s. They have since lost out to inkjet printers as the printer of choice for offices and homes, but many retail stores still prefer using dot matrix printers for their purposes.
Dot matrix printers work by having the printer head run back and forth across the page, striking dots on the page through an ink ribbon. As thus, characters printed using dot matrix printers are actually made from a structure of dots. The first dot matrix printer was developed in 1970s and was known as the LA30. The LA30 is very limited in terms of printer size. It is also unreliable and very noisy.
Inkjet printers are now the dominant printers at home because they are a lot quieter and produce higher quality printouts than the dot matrix. But for industrial and retail uses, dot matrix printers are still preferred for their low costs.
