What Does MICR Laser Printer Toner Mean?
In the movie “Catch Me If You Can,” Leonardo DiCaprio took on the role of Frank Abagnale, Jr., who was a real-life expert at forging checks using a typewriter. These days, forging checks with a simple typewriter is not possible anymore, thanks to magnetic ink character recognition or MICR. MICR makes use of specially formulated magnetic ink. Checks must be printed out using MICR laser toners so that they can be recognized by the electronic reader-sorter machines used nowadays by banks to process checks.
MICR technology works in a very meticulous manner. Not only must checks be printed out by special magnetic inks, but they also use special fonts and a special arrangement of characters. MICR technology was developed to streamline the way banks process checks. If you are printing checks at home, you must make sure that you are using MICR laser toner inks. Otherwise, you will experience delays in the processing of your checks. Or worse, you can be suspected of fraud.
