Snow Leopard Errors Prompt Hewlett-Packard to Release Drivers for 38 Printer Models

New drivers are now available for Mac OS X 10.6 (aka Snow Leopard) in response to consumer complaints about compatibility errors experienced with older equipment after upgrading to the new OS. Printers such as the HP 910 inkjet, the OfficeJet 5500 Series, DeskJet D1300 series, and the LaserJet M1120 were added to the driver update after an immediate response (shortly after release of Snow Leopard) from angry customers who could not get the new OS to recognize their older printers and were advised to buy a new printer to resolve the problem.
In order to properly apply these drivers be sure to update to Mac OS X 10.6 before using the driver update file. The printer should be turned on and the USB port plugged in before launching the Apple Software update to be properly recognized by the new OS. All-in-one printers get a new scan interface for use with Snow Leopard for image capture application. If you’re not certain how to use the new interface you can find instruction on the HP’s customer support site. The new drivers can be either be manually downloaded from the site or downloaded through Mac’s update service available as part of the standard functions of the system.
While it did cause quite a bit of chaos among customers it was also noted that HP is much more willing to make these drivers available to their customers with older devices (some are as old as 10 years) than most other companies on the market.
