Wide-Format Printers: What Are They?
Wide format printers are specialized printers that are used for creating large printouts that cannot be accommodated by regular desktop printers. Although they are not commonly found at homes, wide format printers are highly in demand because they address a special need for special printing purposes. Many people also would rather have their special printouts created using wide format printers rather than any other process like screen printing because this is a more economical way of getting the job done.
The printouts accommodated by wide format printers are typically 17 inches to 100 inches in width. A printout that is bigger than that would require super-wide format printers. Different wide format printers use different technologies. Some rely on inkjet printing while others use laser technology. Others make use of electrostatic techniques in creating printouts while others utilize thermal printing processes. There are many printer manufacturers that produce wide format printers, and they include Hewlett-Packard, Canon and Epson.
