Responsible Management of Printing Waste

More and more people are being extremely sensitive about the environment and how to take care of it. In the wake of the recent series of natural disasters that have been occurring in various places in the world, particularly in Asia, the wrath of Mother Nature serves as a harrowing reminder of how abusing the environment can have dire consequences.

Thankfully, though, every little thing that you do counts. And as far as printer use goes, there is a lot that can be done to contribute towards saving Mother Earth.

Epson printerWe can start by making sure that we only print when absolutely necessary, and that we are careful about what we print – meaning we do not hit the “Print” command hastily and end up printing page upon page of something that needs to be reprinted anyway due to typographical errors. These are actually things that we do to save on the dimes and the pennies, but beyond just that, savings in energy and in paper can also mean that you are making less carbon footprints.

Printing can also have its by-products. For instance, a report due to your professor or your boss can sometimes come back with comments, or, if you’re really lucky, an A. They’re probably stacked up in a corner somewhere, gathering dust. If duplex printing was not used on these documents, as in the case of most school reports, then you can use the back pages for scratch work or as notepads. Most craft stores sell paper binding agents that can be used to make your own notepads. Simply gather these loose sheets and cut them up to the size that you want, stick them together with the rubber glue and voila, there is no need to buy notepads for jotting down grocery lists and other such things.

The key is to reduce, reuse and recycle; we heard this saying somewhere and could no longer recall exactly where we heard it from, but it does make a lot of sense. Bottom line is that we have to care for the environment now. After all, it is the only one we’ve got.
