Practical Tips to Save on Printer Ink
It is rather common to hear people complain about how expensive printer ink can be. Even the printer manufacturers recognize the importance of cost to consumers and have made the comparison of printing costs as a focal point of some of their marketing campaigns. No matter how much we complain, however, there is hardly anything that we the consumers can do about the prices of printer ink, unless the initiative comes from the manufacturers themselves.
We do not have inside information about the costing that has been done on printers and printer ink that lead to these prices (those who do, we welcome whatever you might be able to share about these pricing schemes!), so suffice it to say that we trust the manufacturers to some degree and assume that this is the cost that will give them a decent (but fair) profit.
So what can we ordinary consumers do? We of course find a way around it. Some have resorted to what is considered as the cheaper alternative — refilling cartridges instead of purchasing new ones. But what if you are not comfortable with getting a refill and would like to stick to original name brand ink?
If you cannot beat the prices of ink, then you will simply have to do the adjusting. First off, lengthen the life of your printer ink by trying to limit the amount of printer ink that you use up. No, we do not mean laying off on the printing. What we mean is make smart choices as far as printing is concerned. Consider printing less important documents in draft mode; there are printers that are able to produce such good quality prints that even printing in draft mode yields great results for less the usual amount of ink.
Also, if it possible, you can choose to print multiple pages on a single page; check out your printer options to use this feature. For as long as it is readable, you can cut the printer ink use by half.
You can also choose fonts that do not entail a lot of ink. We have already featured two of them: Ecofont and Century Gothic are generally considered to be ink-savers.
