Radio App for iPhone and iPod Touch from Apple Coming Soon
The iPhone has been around for quite a while. However, since the innovations and the new apps that can be used with it still keeps on coming, it seems like there is always something new to watch out for.
According to an item on CNET, a new iPhone app that will allow users to enjoy an FM radio in their iPhones is in the works. Apple itself is developing the app, and it will be integrated into both iPhones and the iPod touch. The technology, however, is not exactly new; owners of the iPod Nano already enjoy this convenience. The new 5th generation Nano already allows its users to listen to FM radio stations. The app will be built around the same functionality, which means that future users of this application will also have the ability to pause live FM transmissions and fast forward once one decides to play it again.
One may ask though, if this isn’t brand new technology, then why isn’t it out in the market yet? The delays are reportedly due to the fact that Apple has decided to allow the application to interface with the iTunes Store using the iPhone or iPod Touch. The concept, indeed, is convenient. If, for instance, there is a song playing on the radio that a user particularly likes, the integration of iTunes will give the user the ability to tap on the song and buy a copy of it from iTunes.
Apple, however, has been beaten to being able to offer the FM functionality for the iPhone. Wunder Radio has been around for some time, and has already provided iPhone and iPod Touch users to stream Internet radio into their handheld devices. The innovation, and probably what will become the main factor that will hook users, comes in the form of the ability to interface with the iTunes store.
