Sony Vaio AC Adapters Face Recall
Sony is now recalling 69,000 Vaio AC adapters after it was found that the insulation in some of the VGP-AC19V17 adapters can fail to work over time. As a result the user could be at risk for electric shock when they use the adapter. The company’s VGC-LT, VGC-JS240, VGC-JS250, VGC-JS270, and VGC-JS290 series sold after September 2007 are the computers most likely to have the VGP-AC19V17 AC adapter. It’s also found in VGP-PRBX1 and VGP-PRFE1 notebook docking stations sold after September 2005.
The recall decision was made after Sony was told about four different occasions when the adapters short circuited. While none of these defects have yet occurred in the US the company would like to avoid anyone being at risk for injury. If you’re wondering if your model is one of those being recalled you only need to go to the company’s website and enter your serial number to verify. If your computer is one of those at risk for this turn it off, unplug it, and stop using the AC adapter right away! Sony will replace the affected part if you call their number and ask for it after verifying your information.
