Finding the Right Driver for Your Printer
The first thing that a printer does upon first connection is to install itself within the computer. After a few minutes, it would seem that your printer may have already installed itself. But when you try to print something out, it turns out that it doesn’t work. After sorting out the different possibilities for your quandary, you’ve singled it out to one main cause — your printer’s driver isn’t the correct one. So, where do you go to get the right driver for your printer?
First off, take a look at your printer. Look at the brand name and model number. Take extra care when looking at the printer’s model number, since there are a lot of printers with relatively similar names, with different drivers for each one. For example, an HP Deskjet 6840 is different from an HP All-in-One 1210. Though they’ve been made by the same manufacturer, notice that the models are different. Hence, the driver for the 6840 will not work for the 1210, and vice-versa.
Next, go to the printer manufacturer’s website, in this case the HP website. Go to the support and drivers area to find a list of drivers currently available for download. Without saying much, go ahead and download the one that matches your current printer model. Remember that each driver is tailor-made to its corresponding printer, so just downloading any one may not necessarily get your printer working. You may also check sites that offer free printer driver downloads for printers from different manufacturers.
After downloading, there’s not much left to do but to install it. Wait it out and restart your computer just to be sure. Your printer will be up and running in no time flat. It’s a quick and simple process, so you, the beginner, can now see that there’s actually no need to fret or panic when your printer’s driver has suddenly gone MIA (missing in action, that is).
