Monochrome Printing Using Your Color Printer
Let us say that you have a brand new color printer. Initially, you keep using it to print in color for your pictures and documents. But as time goes by, you begin to use your printer less and less. And in the times that you actually print something, you usually print in monochrome. This poses a bit of a problem, especially if you have been saving up money by conserving ink usage on your printer. So then you start to ask yourself — is there a way to print solely in monochrome?
Thankfully, there is a definite way to do this, although it does have a bit of a disadvantage. All it takes is a little adjustment in the printer properties. There should be an option there that should allow you to print only in black. This comes especially in handy when your printer starts to fall in a state of disuse.
So where was that little hitch we mentioned a bit earlier? Here it is — while your printer may be set to print only in monochrome, it actually uses all the other colors to deepen the black. That would mean that it would still consume ink from each and every one of your precious ink cartridges. Although the consumption may not be as huge now that you’re printing mainly in black, it would become a problem when the rest of the printer ink cartridges, save the one that contains black, starts to run on empty. Most printer models won’t operate if one of your ink cartridges is missing or empty. This would protect your printer from possible damage.
So, while it is possible to set your printer to print only in monochrome, the fact remains that it would still consume colored ink, albeit only a small amount.
