Pros and Cons of Buying a Laser Printer

You are walking around in a mall and you find yourself in front of a computer shop. Then you see it – the latest laser printer model. Thinking that you would need it for a lot of office work, the printer practically screams for you to buy it. You are sorely tempted to do so, but before you go and buy that shiny new laser printer displayed at the window, there are some things to first consider – the pros and cons.

Dell laser printerSo let’s start with the pros of owning a laser printer. The greatest thing about it is that it is a highly efficient type of printer since it does not take a lot of time to print a single page. One page can be printed in less than 5 seconds. Time must not be wasted especially when you are about to print hundreds upon hundreds of pages within a limited amount of time.

The next pro of owning a laser printer is that the prints it gives out dry a lot faster and are a lot more accurate. Since laser printers utilize heat to melt the toner powder on the paper, the ink dries easily by the time it finishes. Comparing this to an inkjet print that’s still dripping with ink, I would say it’s clear who the winner of this round is.

So what are the cons? Well, there’s really only one big obstacle to owning a laser printer – the initial price of the printer itself. At around $50, you can already get an inkjet printer. A laser printer can cost twice as much, and we’re still talking about the prices of older models. Although the initial cost may be higher, ink toners are cheaper than ink cartridges, so laser printers are still the more cost-efficient option in the long run.

It prints fast, the ink dries fast, but it costs a lot more upfront. I think, though, that despite its initial price, it definitely is worth every penny in the long run.
