Important Basic Facts About Your Printer
Printers tend to be fickle sometimes. There are times that you have to know every little detail about them to get them working right for you. But you don’t need to be an experienced technician to appreciate, understand and fix your printers. Without being overly techie about printers, there may be some little things that you may want to know about your printer that you easily overlook.
Driver installation is the most fundamental step in setting up the printer, and oftentimes the most overlooked one. Remember that your printer, or any other piece of hardware for that matter, can’t operate without one. Think of it as the key that unlocks and opens your printer for usage. Drivers are usually available along with the box that your printer comes in, in the form of installation CDs. Printer manufacturers also keep an archive of the latest printer drivers online so you won’t have to turn your house upside-down looking for your long-lost installation disk.
Paper jams can be triggered by the simplest of things , including improper paper placement in the paper tray. Make sure that your paper is placed nicely into the tray area. While recycling paper may be good for the environment, make sure the process does not damage your printer instead. If using recycled paper, remember to feed your printer only the smooth ones and reserve the wrinkled paper for handwritten notes.
It also pays to clean your print heads every once in a while. Clogged print heads can distort the print’s quality. Run the print head utility a few times to make sure that they can operate at an optimum level. Doing so might waste some ink, but in the long run, it’s better than not being able to print at all.
