Nokia Recalls Selected Phone Chargers
Consumers who bought Nokia phones with their accompanying chargers or those who bought chargers separately as an accessory this year ought to check out their chargers. Nokia has announced an exchange program that seeks to replace selected Nokia chargers.
The chargers were reportedly manufactured by a third-party supplier, and Nokia found out that the plastic covers of these chargers have a tendency to come lose and separate from the chargers themselves. If and when this happens, the internal components of the chargers can become exposed and may pose as an electric shock hazard if these components are accidentally touched while the charger is plugged into a live socket.
Nokia has not heard of any injuries that have arisen as a result of what is presumably a faulty design, but the company is taking no chances. The exchange program will recall the faulty chargers and provide consumers with a replacement charger for free.
There are three charger models involved. The first one, AC-4U, was manufactured by BYD between April 13, 2009 and October 25, 2009. The two other models, AC-3U and AC-3E were manufactured by BYD between June 15, 2009 and August 9, 2009. Owners of these chargers who made their Nokia purchases prior to April 13 for AC-4U and June 15 for AC-3U and AC-3E are not affected by the recall.
There are instructions detailed out in a Nokia site to assist consumers in determining whether the specific chargers that they own are affected by the product recall and are eligible for replacement. Nokia strongly advises consumers who find out that their charger falls within the eligibility criteria to stop using their charger and work on having it replaced.
