If It Prints, I'll Let You Know

Hewlett-Packard recently rolled out two monochrome printers designed to cater to the needs of the SMB market. The products consisted of two monochrome printers that, aside from their primary functions, also include eco-friendly features such as energy and paper conservation.

The HP LaserJet P2055d and HP LaserJet P2055dn are monochrome printers with network capabilities. They are both Energy Star-qualified and, as mentioned, are geared towards being purchased and used by and in small and medium-sized businesses and small enterprise-level workgroups. HP specifically mentioned that the models come with instant-on technology, which can provide users with energy savings of up to 50 percent when compared against machines that still employ traditional fusing technology.

Since both printers are designed for office use, they are both equipped with the ability to do double-sided or duplex printing, therefore giving users the opportunity to conserve paper and lower paper-related costs. Another feature is called n-up printing, which allows users to print multiple pages onto a single page, a feature that is helpful for those who would like to conserve on ink and paper and yet absolutely need to have something printed out.

The printers reportedly have the ability to print at speeds of up to 35 pages per minute, at 1,200 by 1,200 dots per inch. The machine is equipped with a 2 in by 16 in LCD display.

Since environmental concerns are undoubtedly a big thing for most industries and businesses regardless of the size, HP ensures that they are able to bring eco-solutions to their SMB clients. The HP Eco Solutions Print Console will be available at a later date as a free download for the new printers. This will provide users with the ability to manage the energy and paper-saving settings of a printer directly from a PC.

HP also announced alongside the launch of the HP LaserJet P2055d/dn the HP Green IT Action Plan for office printing and imaging. This action plan will include the use of tools such as the HP Carbon Footprint Calculator. This tool can be used by small businesses as a guide as they formulate their internal environmental plans.
