Jailbroken iPhones susceptible to first worm on iPhones
If your iPhone has been jailbroken, beware that a new worm in Australia made by Ashley Towns changes the background to a picture of Rick Astley, an 80’s pop singer with the words “Ikee will never give you up”. Users whom don’t have a hacked iPhone won’t have to worry about the worm spreading to their phone. The 21 year old hacker claims that he created the worm to show the dangers of not changing the default password “alpine” that comes with the iPhone. The users who also use the SSH program that allows you to remotely connect to phone using another internet source are also susceptible. The worms source code has been released on the internet in four different forms, and security experts are warning that more malicious versions of the worm may become widespread soon.
iPhones that have been jailbroken are not under warranty by Apple, and Apple has claimed that jailbreaking your cell phone might even be illegal. Jailbreaking an iPhone requires running a software program that allows users to run unauthorized software programs, and using the phone on different service providers than AT & T. Apple has also tried to prevent jailbreaking by using software updates, but users are still able do this. Once a phone is jailbroken the user can install programs that Apple has not authorized for sale on the Apps Store, and even though it adds functionality to the iPhone, it makes it easier to hack and accessible to anyone whom has the knowledge on how to do this. But the easiest way to prevent this worm and others that will be coming soon is to not jailbreak your iPhone and to change the password that is better, with a combination of numbers and letters that is easy to remember for yourself, but not others.
