Holiday Guide for Printers 2009
If you’re like most buyers in these financially rough times you’ll be doing a lot of thinking and research before you buy any of the more expensive techy devices this holiday season. Printers are of course no exception. Keep a few things in mind when you go out in search of the right printer this season:
- How Much Will Cartridges and Toner Cost? This should be one of the first things you consider before buying a printer, it’s likely to be one of the most expensive aspects of the machine once you have it and many printers go on sale during the holiday season that look like a deal but make you pay through the teeth on ink cartridges and toner. Check the cartridge costs for a printer before you settle on purchase.
- How Much Can You Spend? Pick a budget and stick to it, that means considering the printer and any paper and ink you’ll need for it over the next several months and estimating what the absolute ceiling is for you.
- Do You Need All-in-One? It might look like a great deal with all those options but think hard, do you think you’ll use most or all of the features or do you only really need a basic functional printer?
- Color or Black: Think long and hard on this, do you just need the basic or both? This won’t apply to inkjets which offer the option for both but for the LED and Laser folks this should take some thought as costs can rise pretty quickly.
- Wi-Fi or Regular? Do you really need Wi-Fi or is a functional printer all you need? For a home with a network of computers that share a printer Wi-Fi can be great but if you’ll only have one pc it could be more of an investment than you need.
- Looking for Great Photos? Then get a dedicated photo printer, most printers aren’t equipped for lab quality pics.
