Microsoft Allowing Windows 7 Sponsoring

windows7Third parties are now being allowed to create themes for the new operating system via a new scheme called  Windows 7 Theme Experiences. Major companies like Pepsi, Twentieth Century Fox, Coca-Cola, Ferrari, and Infiniti are being given a chance to use the tool as a new source of advertising through Microsoft. The Windows Personalization Gallery and Windows Theme Experience are intended to allow for customization for consumers who want to express their interests according to Microsoft.  Companies will also be given the ability to add their logos to other Windows Vista and Windows 7 devices and IE8 theme packages and add-ons including backgrounds.

The trial will be available until October of 2010 and will be optional for consumers. If the trial works out though it could mean a new avenue of integrated advertising solutions and in-application elements. This points toward a more advertising heavy version of Windows among other Microsoft products which began with the announcement that Works would soon be replaced by an ad supported update called Office Starter 2010 in October of this year. Advertising has been making leaps toward becoming a part of these sort of systems in the last few years and the trend isn’t likely to stop anytime soon.
