Where Are the Barnes and Noble eReaders?
The Amazon Kindle is enjoying good business, with monthly sales posting a record high in November. Barnes and Noble’s answer to the Kindle, however, was unable to get a slice of the sales pie – at least not yet.
The Nook was supposed to go on sale November 30th, and customers at a Barnes and Noble in the Boston area were reportedly disappointed that it did not go on sale as planned. In another store in Massachusetts, there were allegedly signs that said that the Nook will go one sale on December 7th.
Various reports contain quote from officials at Barnes and Noble as saying that the e-book reader will be indeed be available on the week of December 7 but there will not be a lot to go around; devices will be limited and will only be carried by high-volume stores.
That is just in-store, however. Those who ordered the Nook online starting today will wait even longer, as Barnesandnoble.com announced that it was delaying shipment of online purchases to “on or around January 11,” which is one week beyond its original posted delivery date of January 4th.
According to Barnes and Noble spokesperson Carolyn Brown, shipment of Nook e-readers that were pre-ordered on or before November 20th are starting to ship. Pre-orders for the Nook reportedly ran out of stock on November 20th, and Barnes and Noble is doing everything it can to ensure that pre-ordered devices will reach their intended recipients prior to the holidays.
Another Kindle competitor, Sony’s Daily Edition e-readers, has also revealed that it will experience delays in fulfilling orders. Amazon, for its part, was quick to point out that while other e-reader providers are facing delays, they have Kindles in stock and ready to be shipped off.

Untill I hold a Nook (or any e-reader) in my hand and play with it, I won’t be sure if they handle PDFs nicely. I plan to do most of my e-reading from free PDF downloads, like those at my e-publisher, Brown Fedora Books (brownfedorabooks.com).
