eReader for Christmas: To Give or Not to Give?
We have done quite a few posts about gadgets that may be given away as gifts, but we do not think that we have done one on the e-reader, although we have featured the Kindle a number of times in previous posts. That is an oversight that we would like to undo, as an e-reader may be quite a nifty gadget to give – and possibly receive – this holiday season.
PC Mag.com’s Lance Ulanoff lists seven reasons why an e-reader will make a great gift in a feature, and we would like to share some of those reasons with you. The feature is actually in contrast to one done by Computerworld’s Mike Elgan, who also listed seven reasons why the e-reader should not make its way under the Tree.
Ulanoff’s first reason has to do with how easy e-readers are to use – both physically and technically. For one, handling an e-book reader sure beats having to hold, say, a book that is 5 inches thick in your lap and in your hand. And there can be nothing as easy as sweeping your finger across the screen when turning to the next page. Different e-readers, however, boast of different features, but there certainly is a combo out there that will work well for anyone.
Another plus factor for the e-book has something to do with convenience. When you are going away for a cruise in the Carribean, and will most probably end up devouring lots of reading material while basking in the sun for a week, it certainly will be rather funny to have your books and magazines weigh more than the clothes you have in your luggage. The e-book reader will allow you to have it all – travel in style and convenience, without leaving any of your reading material behind.
Ensuring that your family and friends enjoy an e-reader like you do will also solve an age-old problem: missing books in your book collection. E-readers are a great way to share your collection without necessarily having to lose it.
An e-reader under the Christmas tree? That’s something we will definitely not say no to.

We got an EZ Reader Pro from Astak for the Holidays. It promises to be a terrific hit because it includes text to speach, an MP3 player, a leather cover and a 2GB SD card with 400 free books pre-loaded on it. More features for less money than the comparable 5-inch reader from Sony.
