Facebook Still Most Popular Mobile App
This may be in contrast to the push to quit Facebook, as despite the call to say goodbye to the social networking site, it is still among the most popular mobile apps.
Nielsen gives “The State of Mobile Apps” and shares that for apps used in the past thirty days, games and music are the top bananas, followed by social networking, news and weather, and maps and navigation. As far as downloads go, games also cinched the top spot – regardless of whether these games are free or come at a price.
Facebook, Google Maps and the Weather Channel are the most popular apps among smartphone users. Among iPhone users, more than half use Facebook at 58 percent, with iTunes and Google Maps following it at 48 and 47 percent respectively. Half of Android and Blackberry users also use Facebook at 50 and 51 percent respectively, and Facebook is the most popular mobile app among Blackberry users.
With these statistics, it is not a surprise that when a comparison was done among social networking apps, Facebook clearly emerged as the most popular. Teenagers are also big on MySpace (Rachel Berry of the hit musical TV series Glee, after all, said that she uploads a video on MySpace as much as she can, doesn’t she?), while adults between the ages of 25 and 44 troop to LinkedIn.
Among those who use their mobiles to shop, the preferred apps are Amazon and eBay, according to the report. For users of other smart phones such as those by Palm or Windows Mobile, Facebook and Google Maps remain one of the favorites; YouTube is on the list as well.
