iPod: On Its Way Out of the Limelight?
Lately, we have been talking more and more about what’s in and what’s latest, and rightfully so; with the holidays fast approaching (and Black Friday just around the corner, yahoo!), it is probably to our best advantage that we are kept abreast about the things we should be wishing or saving up for.
But something made us stop for a while and think deeper — the gadgets that seem to be slowly retreating from the limelight. At one point or another, these were the “big things” that dominated wish lists and must-haves, and as they slide down the totem pole, it may be a good time as any to look back at the good that they have allowed us to enjoy.
Can you remember the time when just about every other person on the subway had earphones sticking out of their shirts – which means that an iPod (or any other MP3 player for that matter) is tucked away in a pocket somewhere? The evolution from the Walkman to the Discman to the iPod has been rather quaint and interesting – yes, we were able to use them all – but, as usual, times are changing once again and the iPod’s reportedly declining sales performance may be indicative of the fact that this gadget may also soon be on its way out.
The trend nowadays is, of course, having everything – including listening to MP3s – integrated into one’s phone. And this includes snapping photos; why anyone would prefer a grainy camera phone image to one taken by a stand alone digital camera is beyond me, but when you have a slinky Coach purse that will simply look tacky if stuffed way too much, then simply giving up the camera that can do nothing else but take photos seems to be the logical choice. Then, of course, innovation is bound to catch up anyway and we may well end up with a camera phone that can rival a stand-alone’s image quality.
