Samsung Galaxy Tab versus Apple iPad

So far, the Apple iPad does not have any real competitors… but that may change, according to a feature on PC World, with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The device is scheduled for launching in Germany on September 2, and is expected to find its way to the U.S. market in the fall. With no other major player in the market at this time, it is inevitable that the Samsung Galaxy Tab will be pitted against the Apple iPad. PC World’s Tony Bradley gives readers a glimpse into how the two devices measure up against each other.

samsung galaxy tabIn terms of size, the Galaxy Tab is comparable more to the Amazon Kindle than the iPad, which measures about 8 inches by 10 inches. The touch screen display of the Galaxy Tab is smaller at seven inches, compared to the 9.7-inch touch screen display of the Apple iPad. The resolution of the Galaxy tab was originally thought to be 800 x 600, but there is speculation that it may be 1024 x 600. The resolution of the Apple iPad, on the other hand, is 1024 x 768.

In terms of available apps, users of both devices will have more than enough apps to choose from. The Apple app store has more than 250,000 apps, while the Android app store – the Galaxy Tab will reportedly run on the Android 2.2 – has an estimated 100,000 apps. Despite the 100,000 difference in number of apps, the fact that each user can only have so much apps in their devices makes that difference negligible.
