ColorQube Wins Technical Innovation Award

The Xerox ColorQube 9200 Series multifunction printer, which was released only last month, was given a Technical Innovation Award. The honor was given in recognition of the technology behind the high-speed solid ink multifunction printer, and was given by Industry Analysts Technical Services Division (IATSD).

The Industry Analysts zeroed in on the technological innovation created by Xerox, where they were able to take solid ink technology from desktop printers and bring the same technology to business-class multifunction printers. These printers had the ability to print at speeds of up to 85 pages per minute in color. The importance and advantages of color printing and the ability to do it at a cheaper rate are the selling points for the ColorQube 9200 series.

According to Ted Needleman, the senior director of IATSD, solid ink technology by Xerox was already considered as “a unique and effective approach to desktop color printing.” Xerox has done well by improving on existing technology, with new print heads and a new controller that allowed high-speed and high-quality color printing, allowing users with high-volume requirements to enjoy the advantages of solid ink technology.

Aside from the fact that solid ink technology is considered as an innovative approach to printing in general, which no other company seems to have duplicated thus far, the concept has a lot of environmental advantages that are held in such high importance nowadays. Since the technology uses solid ink that no longer required to be held in cartridges, it generates 90% less supplies waste. It reportedly uses 9 percent less lifecycle energy, and also produces ten percent fewer greenhouse gases when compared with other laser devices.

Xerox also claims that using solid ink technology can reduce the price of color printing by as much as 62%, which will enable companies to change their attitude towards color printing by making it more affordable.

Xerox have certainly captured a nice niche market with the purchase of Tektronix some years ago. The quality and area of use of these wax printers is second to none. I just wish users would realise that turning the printer off overnight greatly increases the cost per page as all of the already melted down wax is transported to the waste tray when the machine is turned off.
