Pandigital Zero Ink Photo Printer
One of the things in our Zero-Ink technology wish list is having the ability to print on media other than the 2×3 photos that can be printed from the Dell Wasabi and the Polaroid PoGo. True to the concept that there is no way for innovation to go but forward, a partnership between Zink Imaging Inc., developer of the zero-ink (ZINK) technology, and Pandigital Inc. has lead to the development of a ZINK printer that can now print 4×6 photos.
As in all other products that utilize ZINK technology, the Pandigital Portable Photo Printer does not need ribbons or ink cartridges. The trick is in the special ZINK paper that is composed of advanced composite material with embedded yellow, magenta and cyan dye crystals. These crystals are activated and colorized using heat, which is provided by the device.
Users can print borderless 4×6 full color prints using the Pandigital Portable Photo Printer. The machine is not dependent upon a PC, so printing can be done sans a computer. That, coupled with a compact design, makes the printer easy to take with you and use for easy photo printing anytime, anywhere. The printer has a memory card slot and an LCD screen that can be used to preview photos before printing. It also has a user interface for previewing and printing photos with only a touch of a button.
The product will be on a limited release for Christmas and its price will be around $150. A nationwide distribution of the Pandigital Portable Photo Printer is being planned for the first quarter of next year.
