Canon and HP Agree; HP to Market Canon Multi-function Printers
Canon, Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Company have agreed to a new joint initiative designed to increase HP’s share of the market for managed print services according to joint announcements today (9/14/09) in Japan and the US. According to Canon, Inc. this joint agreement joins HP and Canon in marketing and distributing multifunction office systems.
Integral to the plan is the development of a new global business unit named Managed Enterprise Solutions; it is a part of the Imaging and Printing Group sector of HP. The goal of this new unit is to encourage the growth of Managed Print Services (MPS) and assist customers to lower their costs while optimizing production. HP Senior Vice President Bruce Dahlgren will be the party responsible for organizing how the new company operates with its customers.
HP’s market share increase plan is the inspiration for the enhanced partnership with Canon. The two have been in a business relationship for 25 years. This newest agreement enables HP to sell the Japanese giant’s multifunction printers.
The advantages of this agreement are numerous. HP’s MPS customers are sure to benefit from this alliance which pools leadership from both companies. Enterprise Solution customers will have access to the most comprehensive offerings in the whole industry. Canon’s contribution of a wide array of multifunction office system and HP’s contribution of laserjets, multifunction printers, Web Jetadmin device manageability solutions as well as IT integration and workflow resources make this a formidable business combination.
HP already receives laser printers from Canon on an OEM basis and will begin receiving the multifunction printers later this year.
The announcement of this joint venture did little to change either stock; Canon (CAJ) closed down .47 at 38.58 and HP (HPQ) closed down .37 at 45.70.
