Printer Review: Canon Pixma MP990

After being caught up with all the Christmas rush, we suddenly realized that we have not shared a printer review with you in quite a while. Since we are all slowing down at this point in preparation for the holidays, we figured it may be a good time to sleuth around for a good printer. We found one that may just be right for what may turn out to be our priority home printing need this holiday season: photo printing.

Canon Pixma MP990We mentioned the Canon Pixma MP990 in passing when we featured the Canon iEPP, a free photo printing app from Canon. The Canon Pixma MP990 is one of the models compatible with the app.

True to its being part of the Pixma series, the Canon Pixma MP990 retains the same sleek look and bevy of easy to use features that the series has been known for. It is a bit on the pricey side for its range, but it does share the features of other models in its range as well as a few extras. The machine is designed for home use and will be a great buddy for the budding photo enthusiast, especially one who likes to dabble in black and white photography.

Since we are talking printers, we go right ahead with what is perhaps the most important feature that we look for in a printer: print quality. And according to the review by PrinterComparison’s Sarah Meyer, the Canon Pixma MP990 is able to deliver. Colors were vibrant and distinct; they “do not bleed together” when they were next to a similar shade.

Verdict on the quality of printed text was pegged as dark and crisp, even if printed using plain paper. Print speed was pegged as above average, but will not exactly make someone who is into ultra-fast printing happy. But then again, most great photo printers do take their time. That’s a trade off one usually has to make.

Additional features worth mentioning include a removal 35mm film scanner adapter for those long-forgotten photos that you would like to revive, and two-way paper feeding.
