Eco-friendly Gift Wrapping Tips

Regardless of whether there is a United Nations International Climate Change Conference going on or not, climate change and caring for the environment are things that we should always care about. The little that we do can go a long way, and for the holidays, we found this list of tips from TreeHugger.com that will help you do your bit for the environment while spreading the love this holiday season.

Christmas giftWhen gifts are given away, it is said that it’s the thought that counts; this means that no matter what the gift is – and, by extension, the packaging that it comes in – it is the gesture that means so much more. So why spend a lot on the wrapping when you can recycle? Here are wrapping ideas that, when done right and with a lot of creativity, can actually look chic – and you are saving the environment at the same time.

Outdated maps. Why let those glossy and thick outdated maps gather dust in the garage? There will also undoubtedly be volumes and volumes of Rand McNallys that have been boxed up since the arrival of the handy GPS. These can actually make for interesting, colorful, and even classy gift wrapping paper – without costing a dime.

Used paper. As students, this is undoubtedly one stash we have a lot of. Okay, so we have done our bit and used both sides of the paper – but what next? This is one use that can fall under the “what to do next” category. Patch them up and use them as wrapping paper!

Fabric. This may be an especially nice thing to do for mom. Instead of getting wrapping paper, take an attractive fabric that she can reuse – or find some that is just lying around in your dresser drawer.

Old calendars. Once again, these materials make ideal recycled wrapping paper – they are large (in plane area) and durable and come in colorful and attractive designs.
