Google Inc has finally presented the new smartphone, which will be sold directly to consumers. The phone, dubbed the Nexus One, is the fist hardware device which is designed and sold by the 11-year-old Internet giant. The plan is to challenge the iPhone from Apple Inc., which has been considered a revolutionary innovation when it was launched back in 2007.

Google worked closely with HTC to develop the phone, which uses 1 gigahertz Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm Inc. Nexus One is 11.5 millimeters thick and weights 130 grams.

According to the company’s officials the smartphone will utilize  Google’s 2.1 version of Android 2.1 operating system software, which is currently being used by Motorola Droid.  It will also feature a 3.7-inch touchscreen display.

Nexus One has Multi-colored trackball, Light/proximity sensors, compass and accelerometer support, GPS, 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, which is also able to record MPEG4 video (with one click upload on YouTube). Stereo Bluetooth with active noise cancellation will also be included.

Google Inc. is the number one Internet search engine in the world, with estimated annual revenue of $22 billion in 2008.

It is expected that Nexus One price will be $179 when purchased through T-Mobile . The unlocked, contract free smartphone will be available at Google Web store for $529.  Check back for the latest news on Nexus One!
